Rebuked

I love Gods Word, I love Gods people, I love going before His throne in prayer, and I love the beautiful way God can use each of these things to chasten me.

I know that we live in a Christian culture today that sees no value in rebuke. How unloving, they say, a rebuke is. Can’t you just love me where I’m at? Pray for me if you think I’m wrong! Why is this the case? Why do so many calling themselves Christians bristle at a rebuke of a beloved member of the body of Christ, or the chastening of God Himself?

There are only two reasons;

1. They’re false converts.

2. They’re true converts who have spent too much time listening to false converts.

If 1. is the case than we must not begin or end with a rebuke, we must begin and end with the Gospel. To an unbeliever playing church being rebuked will either give them the opportunity to cry victim, or it will give them a chance to prove themselves a Pharisee indeed.

If 2. is the case we must remember that once saved, discernment will follow. Do rebuke this beloved brethren, if you win them over it’s a wonderful thing! If they become angry, continue to pray for them that God would work in them from grace to grace.

In both of these cases there is no fear of God. Gods Word tells us repeatedly, fear God. It says the fear of God is the beginning of wisedom. Pastors don’t preach on this subject anymore, everyone wants God to be their buddy, no one wants to hear of the wrath to come.

I was chastened by Gods Word this morning. This is why I stress starting your day in prayer and study. The beautiful thing about being chastened by God is that His Word doesn’t just show us what not to do, but it tells us why as well. Then when we take it before Gods throne in prayer, the Holy Spirit strengthens us. Don’t fear chastening, beloved brethren, pray for it! God chastens those He loves

As always, dear brethren, be good Berean’s and study to show yourselves approved.

Twisted Tuesday – The Saddest Wedding Part III

Over the past couple weeks, with regards to the wedding we attended, I’ve discussed a couple disturbing twists of scripture. This last one was the most concerning to me, as the implications go far deeper than a negative out look on marriage, or disobedience to Gods Word. This is the wrongful handling of Gods Word.

Our brothers over at Semper Reformanda wrote an excellent post about how to rightly handle Gods Word. Something they said struck me, that we don’t like having our words misinterpreted, we shouldn’t misinterpret Gods Word either. The ‘pastor’ at the wedding read from the gospel of John chapter 2. She suggested this was a good verse because there was drinking, Jesus disobeying His mother, and a wedding.

Two of the three are correct, there was a wedding, and there was wine. However, had Christ disobeyed His mother it would have been a sin, and He would not have been able to die for our sins. Christ lived a sinless life, for someone claiming to be a leader of the body of Christ to suggest otherwise sent a chill down my back. James’ warning not to let many be leaders came to mind.

The wedding at Cana is significant, there’s enough in those few short verses to write ten posts on. I just want to point out the twisted part from the wedding, that Jesus said ‘Woman, what does that have to do with us?’ Somehow said to the officiator of the wedding that He was somehow disobeying His mother. The worst part of having a lack of context is missing beautiful moments like this. When Christ says ‘woman’ to Mary it’s not like our culture says it. In the Greek it’s a title of honor, not an insult from a disobedient son.

This is why I exhort you always, beloved, to be careful not to twist Gods Word. Do you see the damage done, in front of a couple hundred guests, by the twisting of one verse? All those in the audience who already had it in their minds now can say ‘see, I knew Jesus didn’t live a sinless life’. We have to handle Gods Word accurately, whether we’re pastors, elders, or layman. If God handed you a piece of treasure, a beautiful gem, and asked you to care for it, would you? Would you toss it in the corner? Would you lose it, sell it? (Don’t be silly, if God came to you in your human form you’d melt under the pressure of His majesty and glory.) God has given us a greater treasure then any gem, His Word. We need to handle it with care, purposing to make no misinterpretations.

It’s easy to use verses to help you in your argument, but please brethren, take the time to make sure the verse your using is in the proper context. For example, did you know the Bible says there is no God? That’s right, plan as day, for all the world to see in Psalms 10:4, 14:1, and 53:1. Ok, that’s an extreme example, but I hope it’s one you’ll remember, friends. I implore you, be good Berean’s, and study to show yourselves approved.

Thursday Book Review – Religious Affections by Jonathan Edwards

A while back I wrote about Jonathan Edwards testimony, which you can read here, and at the time I was working my way through his treasured work Religious Affections. It took me a little longer to finish this book due to its length, and dutiful use of the Word. It was well worth the read! It was published in 1746, written by the American theologian who helped kick off the first Great Awakening.

One of the best parts about this book is that everything Edwards (October 5, 1703 – March 22, 1758) speaks of he gives multiple verses to back up. This makes reading the book a lot like having a long, edifying, Bible study with the great theologian. It still has so much relevance in the body of Christ today.

I recommend this book to anyone questioning their own affections for Christ, or those that win souls and wish to better judge whether others are in the faith. This book is in the public domain so it’s accessible in pdf form, audible form, Kindle form, or you can purchase your own copy. As always beloved, be good Bereans and study to show yourselves approved.

Thursday Book Review – A Pamphlet

Shall We Accept the Pope’s Invitation to Unite with the Roman Church? H. A. Ironside

This pamphlet was recommended by Excatholic4Christ, our brother in Christ. I’m so thankful he did, it’s an excellent read! In the short pages you’ll get a mixture of scriptures, church history, a clear explanations of what makes the church the Church, and a refutation of ecumicalism.

I think this is a double recommendation, friends, as I’d like to recommend this pamphlet AND my dear brothers blog. His perspective, and ministry, have been a tremendous blessing to me. I hope you will check out his posts, and this pamphlet.

I recommend the pamphlet to anyone who wants to better understand ecumenicalism and the dangers therein. As always, beloved, be good Bereans and study to show yourself approved!

The Heavens Declare – Uranus

Today, in continuing with our series through the Solar System, we’re going to discuss the odd ball in the neighborhood. Every family has one, and our Solar System is no different. Uranus is that crazy aunt who always does the exact opposite as everyone else in the family. When no one was looking, she slipped you chocolate before the turkey was done on Thanksgiving. We’re going to discuss what makes Uranus so strange, how it disputes evolutionism, and what God’s purpose was for creating it.

Unlike the other planets, Uranus has its poles on the side, not the north and south because it leans so far. Due to this tilt, Uranus is the only planet that doesn’t orbit the Sun like a spinning top, instead, it rolls around the Sun like a ball. It’s this tilt that makes Uranus such an odd ball, but there are other anomalies as well. All the other gas giants give out more energy than they take in, but not Uranus. It also has almost a perfect orbit around the Sun, and is the closest planet we have to taking a completely circular trip, taking a whopping 84 years. It has over two dozen moons, which all orbit around its equator, making their rotation just as strange as the planet itself.

How does Uranus create problems for the secular models of the Solar Systems creations? To start with, Uranus has a magnetic field. It’s strength was predicted two years before it was discovered, not by a secular model, (those were all way off) but by a bible believing physicist, Dr. Russel Humphreys.  Dr. Humphreys used the logic he found in the Bible to make his predictions, which shuts down any evolutionist who claims creation scientists do not make predictions. As I mentioned before it does not give out energy like the other gas giants, which is strange as they were all supposedly created at the same time out of the same material. Another way Uranus refuted evolutionary models is with its tilt, which can not be explained even by asteroids hitting it and turning it over. There are no models which can correctly explain Uranus’ strange behavior.  Uranus has the strangest moon in the Solar System as well, Miranda. It is a small moon, in fact, it is too small for the evolutionary models to suggest that it was hit by five separate asteroids. Most secularists admit that the problem with Uranus is it’s moons, Miranda included, as all the models used to explain why it is tilted, are disrupted by the orbits of its moons.

What was God’s point in creating Uranus? To show His creative genuis, and to throw a giant wrench in the evolutionary cogs. Uranus is a beautiful example of God’s sovereignty over all the universe. Beloved, God knows the end from the beginning, and He inspired men to write down the creation of the universe accurately. You can trust God’s

Word, so be good Bereans and study to show yourselves approved.

Thursday Book Review : Not a Book

#ChurchLeaders

We made it home safely friends! It was a beautiful drive, and it was made even better by what I want to review today.

Sorry, it’s not a book though. It’s just as educational, and fascinating, as any of the books I’ve reviewed. The church fathers of the reformation, before and after, on Amazon Prime! These documentaries will edify you, brethren, as you watch the courageous acts of those who went before us.

The best part is that you can download them, so I was able to watch them without internet. If you’re a student, like my husband, you get Amazon Prime free for 6 months then half off from then on out.

If you don’t have Amazon Prime I still highly recommend looking into the lives of men like Calvin, Luther, Mueller, Spurgeon, and Knox. As always, beloved, be good Bereans and study to show yourselves approved!

Be a Living Sacrifice

Friends this Wednesday, like last Wednesday, I want to encourage and edify you. We’ll return to testimonies soon, I promise. First, I want to continue in the same flavor as last Wednesday’s post.

In regards to recent behavior within the body of Christ, I want to remind you all that we are to be a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God.

“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” Romans‬ ‭12: 1-5

Beloved, let us never forget that we have a race to run, a good fight to fight. We need to be growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The world has many distractions, and we tend to mimic the distractions we become emerged in. This is why we need to be careful what we watch, what we listen to, and what we waste spend our time on. Run the race toward the Celestial City, away from the City of Destruction. Fight the good fight against sin, let the Holy Spirit so work in your life that you, yourself, become a living sacrifice unto the Lord. After all, what does light have to do with darkness? Walk in the light, beloved!

Paul Washer explained once that when we feel the desire to let our minds wander, yet pull our thoughts back and listen to God’s Word, we are loving God with our minds. That needs to ring true in all that we do, say, or watch. It’s harder to fall into the temptation of sin if our eyes are focused on God’s righteousness, rather than worldly things.

I wish I could write to you more about this, brethren, but I’ve had to quickly write out my thoughts while preparing for another long trip. As many of you know, we travel full time for my husbands work. This means we make it home far less than we would like. We’ve been blessed with an opportunity to make the 16-hour track home, as you read this we’ll already be on our way to good food, family, and fellowshipping with our home church.

I have not done this subject justice, however, there are so many brothers and sisters here, strong in the faith, who can expound the issue. If that’s you, please feel free to add to what I’ve written for the edification of the saints. As always beloved, be good Bereans and study to show yourselves approved.

Wednesday- Jesus Teaches

#John8:1-2 #JesusTeaches

I’m going to take a break for a few weeks from our usual Wednesday testimony to encourage the brethren in a different way. Here recently I stumbled into a conflict within the church that was being handled very poorly by some. As a young believer I was greatly discouraged to see men, old enough to know better, treating elders in the church shamefully, and on social media, for all to see. It sent me where discouragement always sends me, to prayer and study.

God once again encouraged me through His Word, and in my times of praying for these men, I was reminded that they are just that…men. Fallible men will discourage where an infallible God will encourage. And so today I want to talk about a verse that particularly encouraged me during my study. John 8: 1-2

Can you imagine what it must have been like to sit and listen to Him teach? And yet, His earthly ministry was short, eternity is everlasting. This verse encouraged me by reminding me that the things of this world are passing away, the discouragement will come to an end, and eternity will be spent in His glorious majesty. I wonder if we’ll have the chance to sit and hear Him teach? Until then let us hang on every word that was written, for in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh!

One more thing, brethren, slander, and gossip are sins. I’m grieved to see it taken so lightly by so many, let that not be said of you and I. We are to seek peace where it is at all possible. And as always, beloved, be good Bereans and study to show yourself approved!
