MEGA List: Book Giveaways – Blog Recommendations – New Years Exercise

Hello, and happy Friday, dear friends. Welcome back to another MEGA list, I wish I had more information for you on the episodes for next weeks podcast. Unfortunately that’s still sort of up in the air at the moment, so we’ll just surprise you. One thing I also wanted to mention to you, especially if you follow me on social media, is that I’ve started a new project. I’m going to be taking books in the public domain and reading through them with my followers bit by bit each day. We’re currently reading through The Life and Diary of David Brainerd. I considered posting here each morning as well, I don’t particularly like to post more than once a day. Perhaps I could pick one day a week where I post what we’ve gone through so far? I’d love to hear what you all think, and what book you’d like to read through with me next. Speaking of books…Copy of Jonathan Edwards.PNG

Our partners over at P&R Publishers sent us over a book to review and giveaway. Everyday Prayer with John Calvin by Donald K. McKim, which uses Calvins writings and commentaries to discuss his views on prayer. These short readings include Calvin’s prayers, as well as questions and prayer points to help strengthen your own prayer life. It’s a beautiful little book, that I recommend to all at any age, and particularly to anyone currently reading through Calvin’s Institutes. The giveaway will be run throughout this weekend, starting today, with the winner announced on Monday. All my readers who like, or comment, here on the blog will automatically be entered into the contest. Below is a picture of the book, I promise most of my Christmas decorations have been put away now, but they made for a pretty backdrop before they went into storage.

Have you all put your trees away yet? I had a strange excitement as I was putting things away this year. For the first time since we’ve been traveling my hubby announced we would be keeping all our decorations from here on out. Usually we purchase a few little things, get a tree, and then donate it all at the end of the season. This year is, Lord willing, the last year we’ll be traveling as much as we have been. Due to that, we’re holding on to everything, including all the unique things we purchased at the Christmas resale/antique shop in town. As I packed them all away, carefully wrapping them, I felt much more excited, and far less sad, then I usually do at this time of year. Kayliegh announced this was the best Christmas yet, which made that all the more sweet.

As far as recommendations go, I have a blog series, a shop, and an instagram page to recommend. I’m sure you’re all well aware of Elizabeth Prata’s blog The End Times. Before the end of the year she wrote a series explaining why Jen Wilkins is such a dangerous teacher. I highly recommend this series, as its eye opening and informative. The shop I want to recommend today is Vintage Vinyl Kreations, where a dear sister-in-Christ is creating beautiful items, made to order. The last recommendation I have for you is an Instagrammer whose work as been featured at Kirklands. @Imperfectdust is her instagram handle, I hope you’ll be as blessed by her posts as Becca and I have been.

There is always a renewed interest in getting thin this time of year, well thin for women, buff for men. I’m always so frustrated to see the stores fill with pointless exercise equipment, overly priced work out clothes, and powdered protein. These are usually set near magazines with extremely edited figures wearing similar work out clothes. Can you call it clothes if it resembles the size and shape of under garments? Either way, my suggest is that you ignore all of that. If you want to get healthy take some small steps, manageable goals, change one bad habit, like our friend over at ExCatholic4Christ did last year. I hate to see so much money wasted on unachievable goals, which cause folks to become discouraged. Getting healthy is a great goal, the stores and magazines do not help, and I’ve tried those protein powders when I was young and in need of better nutrition, they’re awful. Thats it, thats my suggestion, I hope you’re all doing well in the New Year. If you missed it, Becca and I did a New Years special, you can catch it on Youtube here. As always, beloved brethren, be good Berean’s and study to show yourselves approved.

Friday Mega List – Recommendations, Reviews, and Suggestions: October 3rd, 2019

Don’t miss the sneak peak clip from my recent interview with Ray Comfort of LivingWaters

***Important Note: to create a more streamline look between the website, social media, and the blog there will be a name change. I’ll be updating the blogs name this weekend, it will be Tulips & Honey Hub from here on out.***

It’s Reformation month already? That’s crazy. This year has zipped by. Kayliegh will be turning 9 in less than two weeks, which is hard to believe when I just brought her home from the hospital what feels like yesterday! October always comes around too quickly. Before I get emotional, let’s get to the Mega List! Coming up next week on the Tulips & Honey Podcast will be an encouraging interview with Emma from MyRedemptionForHisGlory blog. She tells us about growing up in the church, God saving her, and her journey to blogging. Thursday, Lord willing, we’ll be dropping an episode on Suffering Well. As you know, Becca suffers from chronic pain that has only recently begun to let up. In that episode we give advice for how to help others suffering, and how to suffer well ourselves.

Also, because you guys have literally been supporting this podcast from day one with your prayers and encouragement, I pulled a bit of the Ray Comfort Interview early. The only way to get the video to post here on WP was to post it first on YouTube. I had wanted to make it exclusive for you all, but this was as close as I could get. Every time I was discouraged your comments pushed me forward. The Ray Comfort Interview wouldn’t have happened if not for so many brothers and sisters in Christ praying for me. Thank you all for your wondering kindness and support!

Recommendations this week start with this awesome article from Answers in Genesis regarding Saturns Rings. What an amazing creation God has made! My next recommendation is that you watch and share the beautiful act of Christian forgiveness and love shown by Brandt Jean when facing his brothers killer in court. Even the judge was in tears when he pleaded to have the opportunity to embrace her. You can’t hear what he’s saying to her, but I suspect he’s praying for her. Check it out here, and join me in ignoring the Social Justice Warriors who are attempting to take this gracious act and make it about race.

Today I’d like to review the book I interviewed Ray Comfort about. Faith is for Weak People: Answering the top 20 Objections to the Gospel. This book is set up almost like a text book, with questions at the end of each chapter. There are 20 chapters, each addressing an objection Ray has heard while evangelizing. He gives responses that show his humility, and love for the lost. You can find it in paperback, kindle, or audio here. I would recommend this book for all ages, but particularly I think it would work great for small groups and youth groups.

Suggestions? My suggestion to you for the weekend is that you learn something new about the Reformation. It’s Reformation month, after all! As always, beloved brethren, be good Berean’s and study to show yourselves approved.

Friday Mega List: Recommendations, Suggestions, and Reviews – August 15th, 2019

Hello, dear ones, I hope this post finds you all doing well. Today I have a little bit of everything, but first let me give you all a run down of what you can expect from AfterThought next week. Monday, Lord willing, I’ll be posting episode 10, which was co-hosted by Emily from HeMadeUsAlive blog. Emily did a great job co-hosting, and discussing the importance of evangelism. We talk about whether or not women should go out and share the Gospel as well as young believers. On Thursday, again Lord willing that everything goes as planned, I’ll be dropping an interview with Dr. Don Whitney. We’ll be discussing his 2015 book Praying the Bible, as well as his testimony and how he came to pray how he does.

On to recommendations, if you’ll remember beloved, at the end of my interview with Michelle Lesley from Discipleship for Christian Women’s blog I asked her if she was ever going to have a podcast. She said yes, and now her first episode is available! You can listen to it on the website, or on podbean.

The next thing I want to recommend is Justin Peters eight part series on spiritual warfare with his pastor Jim Osman. You can listen to all eight episodes in the playlist I proved below. This is going to be a blessing, and very educational.

For the reviews today, to go alongside the upcoming podcast interview, I want to review Dr. Don Whitney’s book Praying the Bible. It was published in 2015 by Crossway, and is available in kindle, audio, paper and hardback. If you, like me, struggle with focus in prayer this is the book for you. The first year of my new life I spent trying to understand how I should pray. Do I stand, kneel, walk, hands up, head covered? Once I learned as much about that as I could I wanted to be sure I was coming before the throne of the thrice holy God in earnest and praying in a way that would glorify God and not myself. Dr. Whitney’s teaching in this area, and his book, have greatly helped me. I recommend this to everyone, young and old, new or mature believer.

Last, but not lease, my suggestion. This Friday I suggest, regardless of what anyone says, that you do not eat pineapples on pizza. Its unnatural. Instead, find and follow BiblicalBeginnings on all the social media platforms. Also, if you have an instagram account check out @Becca.Berean who made the beautiful gifs used in this article. As always, beloved brethren, be good Berean’s and study to show yourselves approved.
