Today, beloved brethren, I want to address some misconceptions about Noah’s Flood. In this series we will get into fossils, rock layers, and flood legends, but first let’s lay down a strong foundation. As believers we take God at His Word, but as we see every Tuesday we’re really good at confusing, twisting, and using His Word out of context. This happens with Genesis a lot, and if you think this is an inconsequential matter think again. I’ve seen atheist groups training one another on how to trip up young Christians, like our youth, and these are some of the ways they do it.
They start with the two by two misunderstanding. Yes the animals entered the Ark in pairs, a male with its mate, that’s Biblical. But the idea that all animals came in one pair is not. One pair of the unclean, seven pairs of the clean, and seven pairs of each bird. That may seem like a silly thing for an unbeliever to jump on, but they’re well trained to take it from there. What else do you not know about the Bible? How can you trust a book you don’t know? They use these little bits to appear as though they know the Bible better than the Christian, making themselves an ‘authority’.
Another misconception is that one days worth of rain won’t be able to flood the entire earth. Yes, the same people who ridicule you for not knowing the Bible well enough will turn around and be wildly incorrect in regards to the historical narrative in the Bible. Most of the people you come across are just repeating arguments they’ve heard before, not ones they’ve actually researched. However, if your youth group, or children, do not know the Bible themselves they will be unaware that this is incorrect. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights, along with the fountains of the deep opening up. If the ocean beds were level the water would flood the land nearly two miles high, so there’s plenty of water for the flood to have happened.
For another of these misconceptions, fitting the animals on the Ark, lets go to Reasons for Hope in this instructive clip…
Dear ones, there’s only one reason why so many reject the flood of Noah, despite all the evidence I’ll be showing you over the next couple months, and that’s love of sin. The world loves the sin that holds them in chains like an alcoholic loves the drink in their hands. Evidence will not convince them to turn away from their sin, but it will equip our young people to resist the stumbling blocks placed in their way by the world. I pray this series will be a blessing to you all! As always, beloved, be good Berean’s and study to show yourselves approved.
