Movie Review – The Riot and the Dance

Last night, as promised, we went to see The Riot and the Dance. It was a great film, wonderful shots, fascinating animals. beautiful scenery, and genuinely funny throughout. If you’re looking for a nature movie for your kiddos to learn about biology this is the movie for you.

I really appreciated the folks who made this movie focusing on God the Creator. The one thing I was looking for that was not present in the movie was a clear Gospel message. I still recommend this movie, it was really well done, and it’s nice to have some creation scientists highlighted. It was just a missed opportunity, especially in the end of the movie when there’s a few interviews, including Ken Ham.

We tend to think that those who would go to Christian movies will already be Christians, but how many are false converts? I would have loved going to a movie like this before being saved, because it would have made me look religious. There were also, most likely, evolutionists and atheists who went to the movie to write reviews or critiques. I don’t remember hearing Jesus Christ mentioned once, but we have the light within us, we need to shine it in the darkest places. There’s a second movie coming out, hopefully the creators won’t miss this next opportunity.

What happens when we only tell the evidence for God? Most of the time we take atheists and turn them into agnostics, or theists. Only Christ has the Words of life, men and women are marching their way to hell, will we not stand in their way, share the straight and narrow path?

Beloved, please don’t miss understand me. I really enjoyed this movie, Kayliegh and I laughed often, and it certainly glorified God as Creator. My heart just aches for those who came looking for the way, the truth, and the life, but only found His creation. I hope this review is helpful, and as always friends, be good Berean’s and study to show yourselves approved.

  1. Thanks for the review, sister, and your qualifiers. There are many times when we as believers take for granted that our “audience” is comprised of believers. Yes, we should assume nothing and lift up Jesus Christ!

    1. You know, brother, your blog has helped me see this need better. So much ecumenicism in the church today, no one wants to offend anyone! But we should love the lost enough to offend them, if it means they hear the Gospel. A Catholic, Mormon, Christian, and Muslim could all see this movie without offense. That’s a problem, it was only a one night showing so why not give the Gospel? I don’t understand it. God bless you for your uncompromising position!

      1. Thanks so much, sister, and praise the Lord for the example of His Word that never compromises with error. Christianity has surely gone topsy turvy in that ecumenism, once a vile word among the genuine brethren, is now embraced by many/most. Lord bless you in your stand for the proclamation of and fidelity to the Gospel. I just read a post today from someone that proclaims “love” trumps doctrine so leave your doctrine at the door. We’re seeing more and more of that attitude prevail.

      2. I need to write a Twisted Tuesday on that verse, I had a family member misuse it once to say homosexuality was ok in Gods eyes so long as it was true love. We could take that exact same stance and use it for the most vile fringes, or Islamic terrorists, really anything we wanted to. It’s an awful way to treat Gods Word. I can’t imagine that anyone would disrespect even an earthly king by taking his words out of context, how can someone do it to the King of Kings?

      3. Anti-doctrinists often use 1 Cor. 13 to push aside right teaching. I obviously agree that if anything I do is not rooted in love of God and love of people then it’s worthless, but love for people is what compels me to proclaim the genuine Gospel and to be uncompromising about it, otherwise love is just an emotional fuzzy that overlooks truth in the quest for “unity.” Sad to see fidelity to the Gospel trashed as doctrinalism but that’s the way evangelicalism rolls these days. That said, I do agree that some believers get wrapped around the axle on secondaries and become extremely nasty.

      4. That’s certainly true, I wonder if that has to do with a lack of discipleship? I might be like that if it hadn’t been for examples like yours, and being taught what a secondary even is. Then again, if your preference is to reject doctrine altogether I don’t imagine you’d feel the need to be discipled. I even had a youth leader tell me he didn’t believe in discipleship and didn’t want me to use the word. I didn’t understand it then, that church was extremely against any doctrine. That’s self refuting anyway, it’s their doctrine to reject all other doctrines.

      5. You bring up a great topic in regards to discipleship. I’m guessing that for a large percentage of believers, Sunday worship is the only Bible they get all week, and what comes from the pulpits in many churches these days is a lot closer to Osteen-Warren than MacArthur-Washer. Good point also about doctrine haters refuting their premise.

    1. It was really a great movie, I think it’ll be coming up on dvd soon. It’s just more evidential rather than presup in its argument for Christianity. If we would have known in advance we would have gotten there early and put Gospel tracts on the seats or something. Maybe for the second part!
