Hymns from the Past

Why am I posted these beautiful Hymns every Sunday morning? I’m glad you asked. I spent a decade in church without hearing any Hymns! These are such a treasure to me now, I use to think they were only for fuddie duddies. Now, in a couple days I’ll be celebrating my second birthday in Christ, the more God grows grace in me, the more modern music is simply not enough. Hymns take the beauty of music and the majesty of scripture, it’s a banquet! God bless friends.

  1. My wife and I accepted the Lord in the early 80s and it was ONLY hymns in church back then. But the church we worship at now uses ONLY CCM music. Many of the songs I do like but I miss the hymns also.

    1. That’s interesting, I wonder what happened to cause the change? It’s rare, in our travels, that we find ourselves in a church that even mixes hymns in. My daughter and I have enjoyed learning them on our own though. I enjoy a lot of the modern Christian music, but I’m disturbed by the new trend of adding adult language into the albums. Hopefully that doesn’t become acceptable.

      1. The Hybels/Warren/Drucker church growth model, which has been adopted by just about all of the mega-churches, prohibits hymns. It’s says they’re too old-fashioned and will alienate young “seekers”, which is where the growth is.

      4. I just finished watching the Church of Tares documentary after searching the names you listed. It’s amazing to me that anyone would find ‘growth seminars’ to be biblically sound. I suppose this is what happens when you decide God is not sovereign. I’m grateful that our weapons of warfare are not carnal, as we seem to be physically out numbered here. At the same time I’m deeply saddened by this. I was once so deceived I could have been led to believe anything, honestly. It frightens me to think that I might not have been the exception but the rule, how many are convinced they are saved without having ever repented?

        Yup, these purpose driven seeker churches are like McEvangelicalism, high on presentation, low on content. Yes, I’m very saddened to see this as well. The Gospel is so watered down in order to attract the unsaved seeker that in many cases there ends up being no Gospel at all. BTW, I watched the first 5 minutes of the CoT video and will watch the rest tomorrow. Argh! It’s always disturbing to watch Warren in action. I see many Christian bloggers here at WordPress refer to Warren with great praise.
